i am sure you have seen both the guys and girls wore it back then? Thew would wear so much powder their faces where ghost white.
Why?What was the purpose of wearing so much white makeup in the 1700s?
Partly fashion, partly to cover up bad skin, but that's why they used anything at all on thier faces.
Why it was white is more about what was available at the time, they used everything from ground up bones to LIME!!
Often, what they used to give them a clean and clear looking complexion actually burnt their skin and they had to use more and more to cover it up. Then they ended up looking like they were wearing masks.
These nasty cosmetics were expensive, so having a very heavily made up face was a sign of wealth too, which made everyone want to look like that. What was the purpose of wearing so much white makeup in the 1700s?
It was unfashionable to be a member of the working class. The working class worked outside and got tan. It was a sign of wealth to have pale skin. Ultimately it became a fashion statement to use white makeup to show how wealthy you were and had such pale skin.
the exact reason why people sag their pants nowadays
cuz its cool
even though it originated in jail so people could get raped in the butt
but back then it was cool to put on white makeup so nobody could tell the difference between people
1) it was in style.
2) they didn't bathe as often as we do, so i suspect they would have a lot of blemishes with no treatment. they probably used the makeup to cover up the zits.
The paler you were, the higher your status likely was, as the peasants were usually the ones out in the sun working. It just became a trend, kind of like tanning is now.
that was the trend of the 1700s.
y is it so popular 2 be tan now? it's just the trend of the time.
things come and go, and time changes wat's in and wat's out.
all the best;)
Because slaves were dark colored, and that showed they worked in the sun all day. If you were pale then it was a symbol for being rich.
it was what was beautiful then. Kinda like blue eyeshadow was in the 80's.
palor was hot
